Bonlife benefits

Bonlife benefits explained: core, value-added and optional benefits

A Bonlife policy is built in layers: benefits you get as standard, plus practical extras you can choose to add. When someone you love passes away, the money has to arrive fast and stretch further than one bill. There is the casket, the transport, the tombstone, and a home full of mourners who need to be fed.

Bonlife designs its cover around how Namibian families live and how Namibian funerals work. That is why benefits like the Onyama MeatFeast, groceries and veggies sit on the same menu as cash cover.

Bonlife Benefits

Core benefits: included as standard

This guide explains every benefit in three groups:

  • Core benefits – included in your policy as standard, at no extra cost.
  • Value-added benefits – optional add-ons on the Family, Prime and Senior Plans. Each one carries its own small monthly premium.
  • Other optional benefits – Early Comfort, the Premium Waiver and the Child Supporter Benefit. These also cost extra and come with their own rules.

Wherever a benefit costs extra, we say so clearly.

These benefits come with your policy at no extra cost. You do not need to sign up for them or pay anything more.

No medical tests

No Bonlife plan asks for a medical examination. The OneLife Plan has a short health declaration on the application, and that is as far as it goes.

  • Who qualifies: everyone, on all nine plans.
  • The value: cover is open to you whatever your medical history, and applying is quick.

N$1,000 Instant Cash

The moment a funeral claim is approved, Bonlife sends N$1,000 to the nominated cellphone number by eWallet. It can be withdrawn at any FNB ATM in Namibia, the same day.

  • Who qualifies: the Family, Prime, Senior and Legacy Plans.
  • The value: cash in hand to start funeral arrangements straight away, while the rest of the claim is processed.

Accidental death cover from day one, with double cover

On the Family, Prime and Senior Plans, death in a motor vehicle, train, aircraft or boat accident is covered from the day cover starts. There is no waiting period.

On the Family and Senior Plans, Bonlife pays double the Cash Benefit Cover for an accidental death. On the Family Plan this applies to the Main Life and the spouse; on the Senior Plan, to the Main Life.

  • Good to know: only the Cash Benefit Cover is doubled, not any add-ons. A motor vehicle death is not covered if the person who died caused it through their own negligence, or was driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Full family cover on one policy

The Family Plan covers up to 14 people on a single policy: the Main Life, a spouse, up to 6 children and up to 6 extended family members aged 0-75.

  • Who counts: parents and parents-in-law, or dependent relatives who live permanently with the Main Life, can be added as extended family. Children can stay covered up to age 26 while studying full time.
  • The value: in Namibia, family is bigger than one household. One policy can protect the whole circle you are responsible for.

Premium Waiver, built into the Prime Plan

If the Main Life on a Prime Plan passes away, everyone else on the policy stays covered for 24 months without paying premiums. It starts automatically – the family does not need to apply.

  • Good to know: the waiver has its own 12-month waiting period before it applies to the Main Life’s death. After 24 months, premiums must restart for cover to continue.
  • On other plans: the Premium Waiver is optional and costs extra (see Other optional benefits below).

Benefits built into the other plans

Some plans carry extra benefits as part of the plan itself, at no added cost:

  • Legacy Plan: a cash benefit, a casket (up to N$6,000) and a tombstone (up to N$4,000) on both options, plus a N$5,000 grocery voucher on the N$40,000 option. These are fixed parts of the plan and cannot be removed or swapped for cash.
  • OneLife Plan: a N$25,000 funeral benefit on top of the lump sum; Income Protection of N$5,000 a month for 12 months during a temporary disability; a 3-month premium freeze in financial hardship; and 15% cash back after every 60 consecutive premiums with no claims.
  • Cash Plan: N$10,000 or N$15,000 cash every month for 6 months, plus a N$1,000 grocery voucher every month for the same 6 months.
  • LifeGuard Plan: up to N$100,000 for accidental death or permanent disablement; Income Protection of N$30,000 a month from month 13 to month 24 of a temporary disability; Family Care of N$1,000 per day in hospital; and a 15% No Claim Bonus after every 60 consecutive premiums.
  • Savings and Study Plans: death and disablement benefits that pay out the investment balance, top-ups at any time, and missed payments that never cancel the policy. The Study Plan also pays out early if the child is accepted into a registered tertiary institution before age 21.

Kampala Loyalty Programme

Every policyholder on the Family, Prime, Senior, Legacy, OneLife, Cash and LifeGuard Plans joins Kampala automatically from month 3, at no extra cost. The longer you stay covered, the more you earn.

Card From Rewards
Orange Month 3 N$1,000 lucky draw entry every month
Gold Month 13 N$2,000 lucky draw entry every month, N$100 airtime, 5% claim increase, 1 Bonanza entry, 1-month maternity premium holiday
Black Month 37 N$3,000 lucky draw entry every month, N$200 airtime, 10% claim increase, 2 Bonanza entries, 3-month maternity premium holiday
  • How it works: airtime is paid at claim stage. The Bonlife Bonanza is a quarterly N$25,000 prize draw, broadcast live on Facebook, Instagram and TikTok. The maternity premium holiday lets you pause premiums without losing cover.
  • Not included: the Savings and Study Plans. T&Cs apply.

10% off when you apply online

Apply on Bonlife 90 at insure.bonlifenam.com and pay 10% less on your monthly premium, every month, whichever payment method you choose.

  • Who qualifies: the Family, Prime, Senior, Legacy, OneLife, Cash and LifeGuard Plans. It does not apply to the Savings and Study Plans.

Value-added benefits: optional add-ons you choose

Value-added benefits are optional. They are not part of the standard policy, and each one adds a small amount to your monthly premium. They let you shape your cover around what matters most at a funeral – feeding guests, the casket, the tombstone, getting everyone there.

How they work across the board:

  • Plans: available on the Family, Prime and Senior Plans. The OneLife, Cash and LifeGuard Plans have no add-ons. The Legacy Plan already includes a casket, a tombstone and (on the N$40,000 option) groceries.
  • When they pay: on the death of the Main Life or the spouse. On the Senior Plan, add-ons cover the Main Life only.
  • Pricing: there is a Main Life price, and a higher Main Life & Spouse price when the benefit covers both. Prices below are monthly Family Plan prices; the Prime Plan prices are the same.
  • Vouchers and goods (Grocery, Refreshment, MeatFeast, Veggie) are valid for 3 months after the claim is approved and cannot be exchanged for cash.
  • Supplier benefits (Casket, Tombstone, Transportation) are paid only to an approved supplier, on a valid quote. If the quote is lower than the insured amount, the difference is not paid out. If it is higher, the family pays the difference.
  • Accidental death: add-on benefits are not doubled.

Onyama MeatFeast

A funeral gathering means feeding a lot of people. The Onyama MeatFeast delivers about 70kg of A-grade beef, packed in 4 cool boxes, for the funeral gathering. Its value is N$8,000.

  • Cost: N$37.00 a month (Main Life) or N$51.50 a month (Main Life & Spouse).
  • Who qualifies: Family, Prime and Senior Plans. Not available on the Legacy Plan.
  • How you get it: collect it from the issuing Bonlife office or NamPost. If the family is 100km or more away, it is couriered. It comes in two cut options.
  • Good to know: collect it promptly – uncollected meat is forfeited 3 days after the delivery notice. Values and quantities are reviewed every year in line with supplier prices.
  • The value: one of the biggest costs of hosting mourners is taken care of, in kind, so the family does not have to find the cash.

Grocery Benefit

The Grocery Benefit pays a supermarket voucher within 48 hours of claim approval, to help feed mourners. Choose a N$2,000 or a N$4,000 voucher.

Voucher value Main Life Main Life & Spouse
N$2,000 N$9.50/month N$19.00/month
N$4,000 N$19.00/month N$38.00/month
  • Who qualifies: Family, Prime and Senior Plans, both values.
  • Good to know: the voucher is valid for 3 months and cannot be swapped for cash.
  • Already included elsewhere: the Legacy Plan includes a N$5,000 grocery voucher on its N$40,000 option, and the Cash Plan includes a N$1,000 grocery voucher every month for 6 months. Neither needs this add-on.
  • The value: from N$9.50 a month, the family knows the pantry will be full when the house fills up.

Veggie Benefit

The Veggie Benefit provides about 72kg of vegetables and cooking oil for the funeral gathering. Its value is N$2,500.

  • Cost: N$12.50 a month (Main Life) or N$23.00 a month (Main Life & Spouse).
  • Who qualifies: Family, Prime and Senior Plans.
  • How you get it: collect it from any Bonlife office. Uncollected goods are forfeited 3 days after the delivery notice.
  • The value: pairs naturally with the MeatFeast, so the full meal for mourners is covered.

Refreshment Benefit

The Refreshment Benefit pays a supermarket voucher for refreshments for guests. Choose N$2,000 or N$4,000.

Voucher value Main Life Main Life & Spouse
N$2,000 N$9.50/month N$19.00/month
N$4,000 N$19.00/month N$38.00/month
  • Who qualifies: the N$2,000 option is available on the Family, Prime and Senior Plans. The N$4,000 option is available on the Family and Prime Plans only.
  • Good to know: valid for 3 months, not exchangeable for cash. Added through a branch, an agent or the paper application form, not on Bonlife 90.
  • The value: guests who travel to pay their respects are looked after without dipping into the funeral budget.

Casket Benefit and Luxury Casket Benefit

The Casket Benefit pays up to N$8,500 towards a casket of the family’s choice. The Luxury Casket Benefit pays up to N$16,000 towards a luxury casket. Both are paid directly to an accredited casket supplier.

Benefit Main Life Main Life & Spouse
Casket (up to N$8,500) N$34.50/month N$57.00/month
Luxury Casket (up to N$16,000) N$54.50/month N$94.50/month
  • Who qualifies: Family, Prime and Senior Plans. On the Senior Plan, the Luxury Casket Benefit costs N$55.50 a month. The Legacy Plan already includes a casket of up to N$6,000.
  • Good to know: if the same person has a casket benefit on more than one policy, one quote for the total is paid to one supplier.
  • The value: one of the largest funeral costs is settled directly with the supplier, so the family does not have to pay upfront.

Tombstone Benefit

The Tombstone Benefit pays towards a tombstone, directly to an approved tombstone supplier. Choose up to N$7,500 or up to N$15,000.

Benefit Main Life Main Life & Spouse
Tombstone (up to N$7,500) N$31.50/month N$47.50/month
Tombstone (up to N$15,000) N$47.50/month N$75.50/month
  • Who qualifies: the N$7,500 option is available on the Family, Prime and Senior Plans. The N$15,000 option is available on the Family and Prime Plans only. The Legacy Plan already includes a tombstone of up to N$4,000.
  • The value: a lasting memorial is paid for directly to the supplier, so the family can honour their loved one without a separate bill.

Transportation Benefit

The Transportation Benefit pays up to N$7,500 for funeral transport within Namibia, paid to an approved service provider.

  • Cost: N$19.50 a month (Main Life) or N$35.00 a month (Main Life & Spouse).
  • Who qualifies: Family, Prime and Senior Plans.
  • The value: funeral transport anywhere in Namibia is arranged and paid with an approved provider, not out of the family’s pocket.

Family Supporter Benefit

When the Main Life passes away, the Family Supporter Benefit pays the beneficiary N$4,000 a month for 3 months.

  • Cost: N$55.00 a month. It covers the Main Life only.
  • Who qualifies: Family, Prime and Senior Plans. Added through a branch, an agent or the paper application form.
  • On the Legacy Plan: the equivalent is the Child Supporter Benefit (see Other optional benefits).
  • The value: household bills keep coming after the funeral. Three months of steady support gives the family room to adjust.

Retrenchment Benefit

The Retrenchment Benefit pays N$3,000 if the premium payer loses their job through retrenchment or redundancy before age 65. Three months’ premiums are deducted to keep the policy going, and the balance is paid to the premium payer.

  • Cost: N$25.00 a month.
  • Who qualifies: Family and Prime Plans only. Added through a branch, an agent or the paper application form.
  • How to claim: proof of retrenchment, signed off by the former employer. A second and third claim can be made, each after a further 12 months. After the third claim the benefit ends.
  • Not covered: less than 12 months’ continuous full-time employment; self-employment or working for family; seasonal work; the end of a fixed-term contract; resignation, retirement or voluntary retrenchment; dismissal for misconduct; absconding; job loss due to illness, injury or pregnancy; or job loss linked to strikes, unrest or political activity.
  • The value: losing a job does not have to mean losing your family’s funeral cover too.

Other optional benefits

These extras are also optional and cost extra. Each has its own rules, so read the fine print before choosing.

Early Comfort

Early Comfort cuts the waiting period for natural death from 12 months to 6 months, for everyone on the policy – including people added later.

Plan Flat monthly price per policy
Family Plan N$16
Prime Plan N$30
Senior Plan N$50
  • Who qualifies: Family, Prime and Senior Plans. Not available on the Legacy Plan.
  • Good to know: it can only be chosen when the policy is taken out, and cannot be added later or cancelled. If the policy falls 3 or more months into arrears and the arrears are then paid, the 6-month waiting period starts again.
  • The value: full natural death cover kicks in six months sooner, for a small flat fee.

Premium Waiver (Family, Savings and Study Plans)

The Premium Waiver keeps cover or savings going if the person paying can no longer pay. It is built in free on the Prime Plan (see Core benefits), and optional at extra cost on three plans:

  • Family Plan – 10% of your monthly premium. If the Main Life passes away, cover for everyone else on the policy becomes paid-up, with no further premiums. It has its own 12-month waiting period before it applies to the Main Life’s death. It is added through a branch, an agent or the paper application form.
  • Savings Plan – N$11 to N$51 a month, depending on your plan. If the policyholder passes away or becomes totally and permanently disabled, Bonlife adds the value of the remaining long-term premiums to the Long-Term Bucket, so the savings goal is still reached. Available if the policyholder is under 60.
  • Study Plan – N$14 to N$66 a month, depending on your plan. If the policyholder passes away or becomes totally and permanently disabled, Bonlife adds the value of all remaining premiums to the savings, so the child’s education target is still met. Available if both the policyholder and the premium payer are under 40 when it is chosen.

On the Savings and Study Plans, the waiver has a 12-month waiting period. If the policy falls 3 or more months into arrears, only the waiver lapses – the savings carry on. It can be reactivated with a new 12-month waiting period.

Without the waiver on a Family Plan, the spouse can still continue the policy for the remaining members as the new policyholder, by applying in writing with the death claim and paying the full premium.

Child Supporter Benefit (Legacy Plan)

The Child Supporter Benefit is the only optional extra on the Legacy Plan. When the Main Life passes away, it pays the beneficiary N$4,000 a month for 3 months – N$12,000 in total.

  • Cost: N$55.00 a month.
  • Who qualifies: Legacy Plan policyholders. There is no Early Comfort or Premium Waiver on the Legacy Plan.
  • The value: support for the family left behind, on top of the fully pre-arranged funeral.

Getting cover and making a claim

Get a quote in 90 seconds

On Bonlife 90, Bonnie asks a few quick questions and shows you a personal quote. You can add Early Comfort and the casket, grocery, MeatFeast, tombstone, transportation and veggie benefits right there – and pay 10% less every month on qualifying plans.

A quote is not cover yet. Cover starts on the 1st of the month after your first premium, and waiting periods and plan terms apply.

How to claim

Claims are made at your nearest Bonlife branch, not on Bonlife 90. Bring the completed claim form, the death certificate, a medical certificate and IDs, plus any other documents Bonlife asks for. Death claims must be submitted within 6 months of the date of death.

Once the documents are verified, the claim is paid within 48 hours – with N$1,000 Instant Cash on the same day the claim is approved on the Family, Prime, Senior and Legacy Plans. Casket, tombstone and transport benefits need a valid quote from an approved supplier.
